Project Proposal Part 2-Tuning
December 3, 2009
One expression that resonates with me is from Slaughterhouse 5; Vonnegut uses the birds chirp poo-tee-weet? over and over to describe the disastrous effects of the Dresden bombings. How do you really write, or explain disaster. My grandfather is a WWII veteran and he never could open up to us grandchildren about his specific experiences in the war.
You treat me like I was your ocean
You swim in my blood when it’s warm
My cycles of circular motion
Protect you and keep you from harm
You live in a world of illusion
Where everything’s peaches and cream
We all face a scarlet conclusion
But we spend our time in a dream
Jungle Love | Steve Miller
The overall mood that the first four lines from this verse convey are of living in the moment; not needing to worry about your/the worlds outside problems. The next four lines, at least to me, imply that there will always be things that need not be dwelt on (poo-tee-weet).
“We all face the scarlet conclusion”- we all are forced to live in reality from time to time, but reality is harsh; we as humans, naturally block out that which is difficult for us to deal with.
